THEESatisfaction Groove in the Entry

Seattle: home of the space needle, city of constant rain, and birthplace of grunge.  Seattle also happens to be the fateful meeting grounds of THEESatisfaction’s Stasia Irons and Catherine Harris-White.  According to Out Magazine, the two connected through Seattle’s open-mic scene and began dating in 2006.  Their bond both personally and musically was evident, as they entertained with their unique blend of neo-soul and beat-made hip-hop at Tuesday’s show at the 7th Street Entry.

This school-night romp opened with local hip-hop artist, Toki Wright, as Girl Talk played on in the mainroom (which just so happened to be opened by THEESatisfaction). While Wright and his band, This Debris, worked hard to get the crowd engaged, I’d estimate that only about half of the 50 or so attendees were feeling it, although it wasn’t for lack of trying.  Wright’s stage presence and energy was impressive as he transitioned between hurried rap verses to teaching the audience to do the “dinosaur.”

That said, the crowd was ready for the main event, THEESatisfaction.  As these two soulful ladies took to the stage they threw back pulls of Hennessy straight from the bottle and launched immediately into their set.  While I only listened to a handful of tunes prior to the show, they quickly won me over with their smooth harmonies, witty lyrics, and of course their synchronized dance moves. Truth be told, THEESatisfaction may not be for everyone, but these two women, along with their laptop can put on one groove-inducing show.
