Falling Asleep Behind the Lens

13 Mar

CakeIn15 stopped off at Studio 204 last night at the gallery reception for “Falling Asleep Behind the Lens”, a collection of photographs by Kristina Perkins. Perkins won a grant from FEAST MPLS to help fund a major road-trip in September of 2010, when she circled the United States traveling on Greyhound buses. The salon-style exhibition shows off a couple hundred prints from the trip, as well as quotes from the blog she kept while on the road, all in all a thrilling swirl of everyday America and those funny moments shared with strangers. A special treat for the opening were the band Grand Hallway, in all the way from Seattle at Perkins’ request. She had asked them to come in as their record, Promenade, had been the soundtrack for her trip, listening to their harmonic and orchestral indie-pop on repeat as she racked up the miles. Check out a bit of their performance from last night below, and they are playing again tonight at the 7th Street Entry, on a bill with Communist Daughter, Adam Svec and Tentacle Boy Trio.
