What You Missed: Dark Dark Dark and Elephant Micah
19 Jun
As the skies threatened to open up around us and that strange golden glow filtered through the windows, a happy group of brave souls were given balm for the chaos by Joseph O’Connell as Elephant Micah and Nona Marie Invie of Dark Dark Dark. DDD band member Marshall LaCount was kept in California and Nona joked midway through her set that it was strange to go from full band shows to solo, that “She didn’t know where her band was.” She acquitted herself wonderfully with much of the material from the piano-driven Bright Bright Bright EP , and played a new track accompanied by Joe on toy piano. For his part, Elephant Micah’s atmospheric blues picking styles filled the room as he played mostly material from his most recent disc, Echoer’s Intent.
Here, for some form of edification, are some dark and shaky recordings that we’re going to pretend are charmingly rustic but keep on reminding us of our need to upgrade recording instruments. Ah well, close your eyes, or next time, just be part of the crowd here- new shows in August, so keep your eyes and ears peeled, and keep supporting quality local and traveling music.
