Fort Wilson Riot
7 Jun
So here’s the requisite full disclosure- back in 2007, I was part of the theatre cast that brought Fort Wilson Riot’s epicly awesome indie-rock opera Idigaragua to the stage at the Bedlam Theatre. I consider the band members friends, I respect them as musicians and I support their endeavors. When they approached me because they have a new record, Predator/Prey, coming out this summer, I was excited for them, and when they asked if I would be able to help them with some PR around the record, I agreed, because I believe in what they are doing. They are eclectic and wild, bouncing and hummable and beautiful and strange, and I can get behind that. They’re not just paying me to say that, but for the full disclosure, yes, I have a business relationship with them. I just want the best for my friends, and am excited that I get to share their music with you.
FORT WILSON RIOT BURST BACK WITH SUMMER DATES- PREDATOR/PREY DUE OUT JULY
Minneapolis, MN- Fort Wilson Riot, musical masterminds behind 2007’s thrilling & acclaimed indie-rock opera Idigaragua are back to bringing their lushly orchestrated mayhem to the stage. Fort Wilson Riot’s lineup has tightened to the core duo of Jacob Mullis (Vocals, Guitar, Keys, Beats) and Amy Hager (Vocals, Keys, Guitar, Trumpet) and they have lost none of the manic inventiveness, ecstatic musicianship and beautiful harmonies that won them early acclaim as one of the best live acts in the Twin Cities. They’ll prove it this summer at shows across town with a cross section of some of the best local talent, all leading up to the July 30th release of the second Fort Wilson Riot full-length, Predator/Prey.
Predator/Prey has been in the works for over a year now and is being recorded and produced by Mullis and Hager themselves, but it’s not as if they have just been sitting in their basement since Idigaragua. In the intervening years, Mullis and Hager were recruited into the Ice Palace lineup and recorded, performed and toured behind the acclaimed Wonder Subtly Crushing Us record, opening up on both coasts for Cloud Cult. Fort Wilson Riot also recorded “Take A Number” for the 8Hz compilation record and Mullis honed his production chops working with Ice Palace, The Gleam and of course, Fort Wilson Riot. They’ve got road stories & love stories and would love to talk to you about everything from music to gardening to the Lost finale, just ask them.
Predator/Prey carries on Fort Wilson Riot’s winning mix of eclectic taste and conceptual structure, but Mullis says “We definitely wanted to make an accessible record this time around as a change from Idigaragua. Basically we wanted craft songs that were equal parts catchy, and unique to our style of writing. And we wanted to include a variety of different sounding songs on the record to keep the listener guessing.” More details on the record will be coming soon but to preview the new material, click through the link below for a sneak peak of the tune “Forgotten Language” or catch one of their ebullient live shows, whether it is this Friday with New Century Masters (ex-Alarmists) and Wapsipinicon (Shawn Neary from Cloud Cult) or on the City Pages Stage at the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts over Father’s Day Weekend.
