Picking Up Crumbs: Regina Spektor
14 Sep
When Myth Nightclub announced it was shutting down, there was both some schadenfreude (How terrible was that venue? An old warehouse out in the suburbs that made a living of Bret Michaels and that type of ilk? Gah) and some disappointment (If a place that bad could survive, it seemed to bode well for the local venue economy. Seeing as how the Uptown announced it was going to be a box store the same day as Myth announced it was closing, things ain’t looking so up.)
That said, one of the good things that did come out of Myth closing was that the Regina Spektor tour kickoff was moved to the State Theater, a far more appropriate venue for her classical concert piano inflected folk-pop. Minneapolis has a reputation as being a good place to launch a tour and the crowd on Friday night lived up to that reputation. The venue was mostly packed, and judging from the high pitch of the welcoming cheers, the audience was more female than male, although it was balanced chorus of voices screaming out, “I love you Regina.” CakeIn15 was there for City Pages, and you can read the full re-cap with setlist here.
