Woodstock
15 Aug
40 years on, the memories and memorials are piling up. The Guardian has a rundown of some of the best performances of the event, as well as a recent interview with organizer Michael Lang. Over at Slate, their Magnum Photos features crowd and performance shots. The New York Times has been running a variety of features on the anniversary, including this op-ed that contains the following paragraph:
“My sister-in-law Laura just got back from the Lollapalooza concert in Chicago, which was the exact opposite of Woodstock in the sense that it was an extremely pleasant way for a middle-aged person to spend a weekend.”
Which, if taken at face value, says little for out spirit of adventure in a commercialized arts culture. That and we don’t like waiting for bathrooms, but we are happy to have them.
