Picking Up Crumbs: Eyedea and Abilities

l_588847d139c354743594f2567d9c4063I was excited when Eyedea & Abilities leaked the single “This Song” from their new record By The Throat. Hell, I was excited that Michael Larsen and Gregory Keltgen were back at it together. Now that I’ve heard the new record in a preview at Intermedia Arts this past Saturday, I am ecstatic. Seriously, it was my favorite music in a weekend packed full of goodness. If P.O.S. is making hip-hop for the Misfits set, then the new Eyedea & Abilities is hip-hop for the Radiohead set. Eyedea’s musicality developed through projects like Face Candy and Carbon Carousel have strengthened his esoteric staccato delivery with melodic breakdowns and choruses, and Abilities’ monastic development of turntabling skills over the last couple years will knock you flat. By The Throat drops July 21. Pre-order it, run to their next show (TBA). CakeIn15 was there for Decider so head over and check out more details and pictures there.

    Its such a dope album.

As I said to them that night, I think this is the tightest/most cohesive album of the three. When the second song came on, my immediate thought was “They just made their fuckin’ U2 song” complete with the incredible turntable solo at the end.

I am really interested in seeing how heads take this material.
