Record Store Day… At Coachella

20 Apr

So, lucky me!  Not only did I get to spend a weekend at Coachella with Cloud Cult (more on that later), but Zia Records from Arizona was onsite with TONS of awesome Record Store Day releases.  After glancing over cas’s list of what he picked up from the Fetus, I knew what not to buy.

Although Coachella isn’t a place where you’d expect to find a record store (especially one celebrating Record Store Day), it was shocking to see how much stock Zia had on hand.  Even with all the extra stock they were allocated by the labels, the Bruce Springsteen and the Beck/Sonic Youth split 7″ were gone in under 2 hours.  One of Zia’s managers said the vinyl was actually delivered via Federal Express to his hotel room the night before – another precaution to make sure no one really knew which stores were getting what items.

Here’s a quick rundown of what I picked up:

Cold War Kids at Fingerprints (CD)
Bad Religion – Original EP (7″)
MC5 – Kick Out the Jams (7″)
The Stooges – 1969 (7″)
Andrew Bird & Lonely Dear (Split 7″)
The Gaslight Anthem – “Live at Park Ave” (10″)
Black Keys – Strange Times (7″)
Radiohead – Karma Police (12″)
Radiohead – Creep (12″)
Record Store Day 2009 Edition Commemorative Vinyl 12″
