Vid Time: Fleet Foxes “Mykonos”

6 Feb

Fleet Foxes were damn near ubiquitous on 2008’s Best-Of lists (including Cake In 15’s own) and they just played one of the best SNL musical guest spots since Prince– and by played, I mean, you know, instruments.  Anyhoo, Sean Pecknold, brother of lead singer Robin and director of the “White Winter Hymnal” vid has just put out this single for “Mykonos” (via from the Sun Giant EP, soon to be released as a single to tie in with a re-issue of the self-titled album (including the EP).  The “Mykonos” clip is a dark, lovely thing, the origami aesthetic gives it a delicacy, but it definitely pushes some hallucinogenic art-Deco buttons along the way.

In related weirdness, check out this clip of SNL writer Jorma Taccone (one third of The Lonely Island comedy troupe, with Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer) dancing as FF play “Blue Ridge Mountains”. It’s, um, special. But, whoever said that harmonic folk rock wasn’t dance music or that comedians aren’t starved for attention, well, you are now officially wrong.
